Are you worried that unwanted wrinkles and frown lines may one day plague your face? If you are in your 30s, then you may be contemplating Botox. More specifically, you may be wondering whether or not preventative Botox in your 30s is worth it.
It is time to find out!
If you are considering Botox, then chances are high that you are already somewhat familiar with the procedure. After all, throughout the past several years, Botox has become an extremely popular treatment, for both men and women.
Just so there is no confusion, Botox is used to temporarily paralyze muscles, resulting in a younger, smoother, wrinkle-free appearance. Made from botulinum toxin, which is produced by Clostridium botulinum, Botox can (safely) be injected into individuals in small concentrations. This toxin prevents the abnormal contraction of muscle cells, in turn, allowing the muscles to become less stiff.
While there are a variety of medical reasons as to why a patient may choose or require the injection of Botox, many individuals opt to have treatment for cosmetic purposes.
Though Botox has been proven to be both safe and effective, as with any type of treatment or procedure, rare yet negative side effects can occur, such as: mild pain, numbness, headaches, nausea, bleeding, blurred vision, and swelling. Of course, these negative side effects do not generally last long, and are less likely to take place when the Botox procedure is performed by a skilled and trained professional, such as Dr. Kato of Aesthetic Art.
Now that you are more familiar with the Botox process, as well as its benefits and possible side effects, you are probably still wondering whether or not preventative treatment in your 30s is effective.
Interestingly enough, some people believe the following mantra: “The age you start getting Botox injections, will be the age you stay.”
There is a common pattern today, in which more and more patients are choosing to pursue Botox treatments at a younger age – even as young as late 20s and early 30s – not to get rid of current wrinkles, but to prevent future ones.
As mentioned above, Botox can temporarily paralyze the muscles, but the injection can also help to improve facial posture, which can eventually cause wrinkles. Simply put, when you freeze these muscles, the muscles can no longer move, meaning less wrinkles appearing on your face.
Think of it this way: You have most likely been told time and time again to not scrunch your face, as the action will cause wrinkles. When you get Botox injected into your forehead, you physically will not be able to scrunch your forehead, even if you try. As a result, wrinkles will not be able to form in your forehead, or at least have a much harder time trying to form.
That is how Botox can be seen as a “preventative action” for those in their 30s, before too many wrinkles have become prominent. Basically, you are stopping wrinkles from forming in your forehead (or anywhere on your face) before they truly exist, or get particularly bad.
Does this mean if you run out now and get an injection that you will never have a wrinkle on your face as long as you are alive? Of course not! However, the point can be argued that if you start Botox treatments sooner rather than later, then you may end up with less wrinkles on your face. After all, many believe that the best time to start treating wrinkles is either before they appear, or as soon as they start appearing.
So, is preventative Botox is your 30s worth it? Or, more so, is it worth it for you?
While Botox is a safe, effective, and FDA-approved treatment, only you can decide the most appropriate time to start getting injections.
Further, before you do decide to schedule a Botox consultation, make sure that you have realistic goals and expectations following the procedure, as well as that you are emotionally, physically, and mentally stable. It is true: Botox treatments can help boost your self-esteem, making you look and feel younger, like the very best version of yourself. Yet, make sure you are pursuing treatment for the right reason . . . because you want it, and not someone else.

Are you currently unhappy with the appearance of your skin? More so, do you have unwanted wrinkles, fine lines, or dark spots, that have left you feeling self-conscious? Most individuals do. However, most treatments do offer many of the same benefits, such as: pain-free, no downtime, little to no side effects, quick, lasting results, a boost in confidence, and better-looking skin.

Not all wrinkles are the same. While some are the result of repeated motions like smiling or laughing, others are caused by changes to collagen production and lost skin elastin. Knowing the difference between facial wrinkles and their causes can help you get the right care at the right time, helping put the aging process on pause.
Different causes call for different solutions. While certain creases can be treated effectively be one cosmetic treatment, that isn’t to say that another type of facial wrinkle treated with the same dermal filler or injectable would be reduced as effectively. As a result, identifying the type of facial wrinkle you’ve developed as well as how to pick up on the early signs of aging can drastically change the effectiveness of any future treatments.
Based on the different possible causes, wrinkles have been traditionally categorized as static or dynamic.
Do your wrinkles appear even when completely relaxed? Chances are you have static wrinkles. Static wrinkles can be thought of as the result of environmental effects, such as sun damage, poor diet, and smoking as well as genes. These factors impact the skin’s collagen production, causing areas to become deficient and lose their elasticity. Combined with the natural slowing of collagen production as patients age, increased exposure to damaging UV rays or smoking can ultimately cause patients to lose skin elasticity and experience sagging skin.
When it comes to treating static wrinkles, a dermal filler is your best bet for restoring supple, natural-looking volume to your face without surgery. Options like Juvederm Voluma and Restylane are each designed to help restore missing volume and treat sagging skin in different parts of the face. These non-surgical cosmetic solutions are developed using hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring compound that helps skin retain much-needed moisture as well as temporarily stimulate collagen production.
In contrast, dynamic wrinkles develop in response to repeated muscle contractions. Crow’s feet, smile lines, forehead wrinkles and lines between the eyebrows are common types of wrinkles that fall within this category. One distinct difference between dynamic and static wrinkles is that dynamic wrinkles only appear following muscle contracture. For example, if you smile and small lines appear next to your eyes and remain in place for several moments after your smile, chances you have dynamic wrinkles.
If left untreated, dynamic wrinkles can become permanent facial features by deepening into deeper static wrinkles. As a result, treating the underlying muscle early is an important step in putting the aging process on hold. At Aesthetic Art of Palm Springs, Dr. Kato has found that patients showing signs of dynamic wrinkles enjoy the best results with Botox treatment. When strategically injected, Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscle, preventing it from future contractions and ultimately keeping existing wrinkles from further creasing. Preventive injections are especially helpful in helping soften the development of new lines without restricting facial movements.

Familiar with anti-aging products or skincare treatments as a whole? Chances are you’ve come across collagen as wither a product or the tagline of a product. However, what exactly is collagen and what role does it play in determining your facial appearance?
Collagen is a naturally-produced protein found in the skin and connective tissue. Hair, bones, muscles, ligaments, and skin rely on collagen and the amino acids that make up collagen for their health and structural support. In terms of skin, collagen keeps skin supple and taut by providing important elasticity and density.
As we age, collagen production gradually slows. The skin begins to lose volume across the face, including the lips and cheeks. In combination with the skin’s exposure to the environment and genes, slowing collagen development can quickly lead to the development of fine lines and eventually wrinkles across the face. Furthermore, lost collagen or limited collagen production can negatively impact the tautness of skin. It doesn’t take long for the aging process to begin diminishing the skin’s elasticity, causing facial sagging and increasing the fragility of skin.
With these consequences in mind, replacing lost collagen is an important step in halting the effects of aging on your appearance. Over recent years, a number of dermal filler products have hit the market. Many of these options are highly effective in restoring volume to areas where collagen production has visibly slowed. However, these solutions tend to be temporary and require multiple touch-ups in order for patients to stay on top of the aging process.
For individuals looking for a more permanent answer to aging, Dr. Kato may recommend Sculptra, a non-surgical cosmetic solution designed to kick slowing collagen generation back into high gear. The secret behind this treatment option is poly-l-lactic acid, a biocompatible compound commonly used in medical devices to stimulate healing around pins, screw, and implants. When used as a cosmetic enhancement, this key ingredient helps stimulate the receptors responsible for generating more collagen. This helps rebuild the underlying collagen structure, allowing additional protein to develop in the targeted area. Thanks to the precise application of the compound, cosmetic specialists like Dr. Kato can uniquely address deficient areas without over-treating the face.
Precise, pinpoint application makes Sculptra ideal for a broad range of patients. Whether you’re just noticing the development of fine lines or have lived with skin laxity problems for years, the targeted injection makes it possible for all patients to restore their former youthfulness. Perhaps most importantly, the treatment continues to work long after the injections are over. By re-engaging key collagen production, patients enjoy up their results for up to two years.
With Sculptra treatment, keeping your skin voluminous is simple. To learn more about this innovation in anti-aging technology, contact Dr. Kato and schedule your cosmetic consultation today!
Short for polydioxanone, PDO has grown in popularity with the rise of Nova Threads non-surgical facelifts. Whereas traditional facelifts have required surgery to successfully tighten sagging skin, this new option allows patients to avoid the preparation, downtime, and recovery associated with surgery.
The use of PDO threads contributes substantially to the success of this treatment. Just like surgical sutures, PDO threads can be safely inserted into the skin and are absorbed by the body during the healing process. Rather than being used to seal surgical incisions, this medical suture is used as a means of creating tiny injuries in the skin in areas that have seen the effects of aging. As the injuries heal, the body produces collagen to help heal the treatment site, by which the area looks fuller and smoother.
Part of the advantages of Nova Thread or PDO thread therapy is the versatility of the treatment. Depending on a patient’s problem areas, different threads can be used to achieve distinct goals. In particular, barbed threads and smooth threads offer unique advantages to different patients.
While the idea of barbed anything near your face can sound less than appealing, barbed PDO threads pull their weight (quite literally). The unique nature of these sutures allows the thread to latch into tissues during implantation. This results in a smoother physical lift, allowing the thread to efficiently pull loose, sagging skin that can accumulate in the lower parts of the face such as the jawline and eyebrows. As a result, many patients who choose this type of PDO thread enjoy results like that of a facelift without the complications of undergoing surgery.
Another key advantage of barbed PDO threads? The prongs on the threads help in stimulating natural collagen production and tighten skin, providing a natural looking facial enhancement. As the threads are made of polydioxanone, they eventually dissolve and leave results that last up to two years.
Not all PDO threads are alike. While some patients may need the significant support offered by barbed threads, other individuals are simply looking for a lasting way to improve their skin below the surface. Stimulating natural collagen regeneration is a particularly effective means of bringing back youthful, smooth facial appearance without running the risk of looking over-treated. While kickstarting this important process can be done with dermal fillers, these solutions require retreatment throughout the year. For these individuals, smooth PDO threads offer a long-term answer.
Much like their barbed counterparts, smooth PDO threads are renowned for their ability to stimulate elastic collagen synthesis. In the months following insertion, the body starts to repair and heal the tissue surrounding the absorbable threads. This process is what triggers the production of new collage and elastin in the treatment areas. As smooth PDO threads do not have barbs to pull back skin, they are ideal for stimulating the production process in areas that have deflated or creased over time such as the lips or cheeks.

As we get older, it is normal to experience the undesired signs of aging, including wrinkles and lines. Whether the actual culprit is age or genetics, you may get to a point where you want to pursue cosmetic treatment.
At Aesthetic Art in Palm Springs, CA, we are here to help you reach your cosmetic goals and provide you with a list of your best options for your needs. Too often, patients assume their only option is surgical intervention. However, surgery isn’t the only option available.
You are most likely familiar with facelift procedures. A facelift can counteract the negative signs of aging, but if you are looking for alternative long-term rejuvenation options that do not include a facelift, you’ve come to the right place!
While Botox and Dysport aren’t the exact same product, each is a brand of a botulinum toxin type A injectable that treats forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and more.
Each of these injectables are popular at our facility because they are both minimally invasive. You can receive quick, effective results without surgery. Injections are generally administered every four to six months, take about fifteen minutes to perform, and require no recovery or downtime.
Depending on the patient’s specific needs and post-treatment goals, Dr. Kato can help determine whether Botox or Dysport is the best option.
Our facility offers a variety of fillers to choose from, such as Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Restylane, and Refyne/Defyne.
Dermal fillers are a popular choice at our office, and when injected by a skilled and trained professional, can effectively fill in wrinkles and facial lines. The purpose of fillers is to add volume to the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Fillers a composed of a smooth gel with powerful active ingredients that can be injected quickly and safely. There is no downtime or recovery period associated with fillers, so it is perfect for patients that are on the go.
Though the fillers we offer ultimately have the same agenda, depending on skin type, tone, and post-treatment goals, a patient may choose one dermal filler over the other. After a quick and pain-free consultation, we can determine which filler would be best for you.
Sculptra is an injectable that can effectively soften the appearance of wrinkles, as well as restore volume to the face and replenish collagen to the skin. Due to Sculptra’s main ingredient—Poly-L-Lactic Acid—results can last up to two years.
Patients pursuing Sculptra will often need to receive multiple injections, generally two to four treatments six weeks apart. The solution will be injected deep into the dermis, allowing it to reach the deepest levels of the skin. Often considered a “pain-free” injection, topical cream and anesthetic can be used upon a patient’s request.
Unlike a traditional facelift, there is no downtime or recovery period needed after a Sculptra treatment. Temporary side effects may include swelling, redness, tenderness, and/or bruising—which are all normal and will subside within a few days.
You don’t have to pursue a full facelift procedure to get rid of your double chin; Kybella can give you the sleeker neckline you’ve always wanted. This simple, prescribed medication can permanently eliminate your double chin following a few minor injections.
FDA-approved, Kybella’s main ingredient is deoxycholic acid. This specific acid is a fat-burning substance that occurs naturally in the body. When deoxycholic acid is injected underneath the chin, it effectively eliminates the fat cells that cause submental fullness. After the fat cells are destroyed, they are naturally flushed from the body and never return.
PRP (platelet rich plasma) facials are becoming more and more popular among patients, particularly those who want powerful, rejuvenating results. To achieve these results, we use components of the patient’s own blood, resulting in an easy, quick, pain-free experience.
The process begins by gently creating small tears on the desired treatment area through microneedling and spreading the PRP serum over these tears. PRP instantly creates volume, successfully lifting features and filling in wrinkles. This serum stimulates cell growth, encouraging the migration of fresh cells to the surface of the skin.
Following treatment, patients are permitted to immediately return to their daily schedules. Mild side effects may include redness, soreness, and/or swelling, but there is no need for pain medication. Multiple treatments may be necessary for maximum results. Depending on the patient and number of treatments received, results could last anywhere from nine months to two years.
Another popular non-surgical alternative to a Facelift is the thread lift. Nova Threads are absorbable sutures that lift sagging skin to create a rejuvenated appearance without surgery. Best of all, a thread lift is an in-office procedure that takes only thirty minutes and does not require anesthesia. These sutures are made with polydioxanone and can be safely absorbed by the body after placement.
There are two types of sutures used for this procedure and both accomplish different but effective results. Barbed sutures are used to pull the skin and mimic a lower facelift. Smooth sutures, on the other hand, are used to promote collagen production without any tightening effects.
If you elect barbed sutures, Dr. Kato will place the threads with very fine needles underneath the skin. Then, they are pulled taut to create a lifting effect that results in a tighter jawline, the elimination of lines and jowls, and lifted cheeks.
It’s common to want to fight the negative signs of aging. You don’t have to get a facelift or other invasive procedure to accomplish this goal. Invasive procedures are often painful, expensive, and require recovery time. Instead, take advantage of the non-surgical treatments aesthetic medicine has to offer.
